A look back at the 'My Old Man' film series

Five films, five fathers, and an impact that lasts a lifetime. We're revisiting our 2016 series with YETI, featuring JT Van Zandt, Shane Dorian, Jordan Shipley, Hilary Hutcheson, and YETI's founding family, the Seiders.

Big Wave Surfer Shane Dorian and his son, Jackson Dorian.

Shane Dorian has faced some of the most dangerous waves in the world, is an avid hunter, and considers himself most in his element when outdoors. And for his son, Jackson, Dorian is passing on the same appreciation for the wild that comes with an endless spirit of outdoor exploration.

YETI founders Roy & Ryan Seiders and their dad Roger Seiders.

Roger Seiders is a businessman and inventor. He quit his job as a high school teacher in the mid-1970s to go full-time with his company Flex Coat, which is still in business today. So it’s no surprise that he passed on an innovative attitude to his sons, YETI co-founders Roy and Ryan Seiders. But even though the entrepreneurial spirit resonates loudly, it’s Roger’s lessons on fatherhood that stand out as Roy and Ryan raise families of their own.

Former football player Jordan Shipley and his father Bob Shipley.

Football is still the beating heart of Texas sports – former wide receiver Jordan Shipley knows that all too well. In The Coach’s Son, Shipley and his father reflect on the injuries, career struggles, and family ties that challenged their relationship and ultimately forged a stronger bond between them.

Fly fisher JT Van Zandt and his father, musician Townes Van Zandt.

A poet and Texas songwriting legend, the infamous Townes Van Zandt left a powerful, if not destructive, legacy in his wake. And for his son JT, viewing Townes’ musical fervor encouraged him to find his own passion for the outdoors.

Fly fisher Hilary Hutcheson and her father Dave Hutcheson.

Hilary Hutcheson’s father, Dave, has dedicated his life to the outdoors. After spending decades as a Park Ranger at Mount Rainier National Park, he retired to Montana’s Glacier Park and all but retreated from the wild activities that defined his career. But Hilary is changing all that, by taking her father out on the water to learn the sport that became her life’s calling – fly fishing.
